a description and an invitation for comments

Here's a description of our choreography so far, made for Amy Knowles and Robbie Shaw. It's based on last night's rehearsal. I welcome comments, like your images, like new ideas, like "this makes me think of" or the way i'd describe this is..." or objections. they are good too. also if you have images for what happens where we now are...

here goes:

30 seconds (delicious feet) people are standing in a clump stage center, barely doing anything, looking like they are in a state of "feeling their delicious bodies" Gradually, a gold frame dissolves up around the edge of the stage it completely appears before--- the dancers look out at audience.

they walk downstage and all but three leave

the next whole section is running around 5 minutes (very rough timing):
three people begin on stage but more accumulate immediately, entering from the downstage edge. this whole section is focused on the idea of weight imprints into the floor and into one another. these are tiny mini scenes that appear and disappear over the course of (I don't know how long). gradually, dancers form a line upstage (left to right). one dancer, downstage, lifts the tempo by dancing a kind of "sticky tape" fast imprints moving upstage. this dancer bumps into one in the line, and all move/change posture in a punctuated way.

at this point, a tree appears inside the gold frame. it has green leaves. these leaves gradually turn brown. then, they fall off the tree, leaving only the winter branches. the tree itself dissolves away. The word "YOU" appears where the tree had been. I'm not sure about the word "YOU." for some reason i like it, but i know that it is a very big commitment, and i don't know entirely where i am going.
while all this is going on in the video projection,
the dancers are slowly moving from their off kilter postures to standing again. (or are they going somewhere else, i don't know).

in any case: (and this is new and replaces running upstage and downstage)

Lailye walks to form a new line, one that will go diagonally from downstage right to upstage left. others join her in the line. in the line, alex nestles with Lai.

Marina drops to the floor. Carol imprints on top of her. a new line forms Upstage downstage.

Dancers run to form a third line, set from downstage left to upstage right. the dancers change direction gradually, pivoting on the spot. they all walk off.

Marina is the last one off and pauses in the upstage right corner (where they have all departed from) and begins a sexy, celebrative dance facing toward the empty space. I believe this is a Brazilian social dance, salsa?? Marina will correct me. Lai walks into the space that Marina had left earlier, and re-fills it. (lying on the floor). Marina finishes her dance and walks to the floor and re-imprints herself where she had been before. others enter till all are onstage back to one of their or another's imprints.

the most upstage person lifts herself out of the weight imprint and walks backward downstage. as she crosses the lattitiude of other dancers, they join her until all are walking backwards downstage together. they leave behind one dancer who looks like a derelict artifact, upstage center.

now all but one are perched at the bottom of the stage. who knows what happens next. we started thinking about being washed back in, like a wave. our imaginations are at work!

  1. some movement metaphors
we stand feeling the floor delicious beneath our feet. presently, we look out at the audience inviting their gaze.

you. (me, us) standing aware in another line. a chin nestles imprinting a shoulder. she descends to imprint the floor another line forms looking at you. she lies atop to listen, to imprint an ear to spine. another line turns looking out at you, seeing us, we dissolve.

we return to recall delicious imprints and exit together to sweep back in like debris in a wave.
